Sweet Potato Puree

Sweet potatoes are a popular first food to introduce to babies because they are highly nutritional whilst being sweet and mild.  Sweet potatoes are packed with fiber, beta-carotene, vitamins A and C and minerals such as iron, calcium and folate.

Serves: 16 ounces of sweet potato puree
Age: 4 months old / Baby’s 1st Foods

Ingredients

  • 2 Sweet Potatoes
  • Water

Instructions

  • Wash, peel and cube the sweet potatoes.
  • Put the sweet potato cubes in a saucepan and fill with water to cover.
  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer until tender (about 15 to 20 minutes).
  • Remove from heat once the sweet potatoes are soft and can be pierced easily with a fork.
  • Allow the sweet potatoes to cool.
  • Drain the sweet potatoes making sure to reserve some of the cooking liquid.
  • Purée the sweet potatoes in a food processor with some of the cooking liquid until the texture is right for your baby.
  • To make the puree thinner, add cooking liquid, water, breast milk, or formula.
