Red Lentils Puree

Red lentils are a popular food with babies as they are creamy and very tasty!  Red lentils are smaller than green or brown lentils and cook fairly quickly.  They are an excellent source of protein, folate, iron and other minerals as well as fiber.

Serves: 4 – 6 servings
Age: 6 months old

Ingredients

  • 3 oz Red lentils rinsed
  • 5 oz Butternut / Winter Squash peeled and cubed
  • 8 oz Carrots peeled and cubed
  • 12 oz Potato peeled and cubed
  • 600 ml Vegetable stock

Instructions

  • Put all the ingredients into a saucepan
  • Bring to a boil
  • Reduce heat, cover and simmer until the Red lentils are tender (about 40 minutes)
  • Once the Red lentils are cooked, put the mixture to cool.
  • Purée in a food processor until the texture is right for your baby.
  • Add water if you need to make the puree thinner.
